The fair tone of my grandmother’s skin is transparent. Nothing like dirt. More like glass. See through, with a laced pattern.

Freckles and warmth cover my mother. The sun radiates through her skin, almost penetrating those around it. It is clear to see the exposure of life has taken its toll on her. Leaving permanent scars behind.

The skin that swaddles me is tinted with olive and sun. It signatures the deep ethnicity with in the blood that rushes underneath. From where I once started, and where I will some day return.
