Too young to Die
I laid the yellow lily
 On the memory hardened ground
 Underneath the crabapple tree
 That together we found.

 It’s been five years
 Since we played here
 Since I shed any tears
 For my lost friend.

 It wasn’t fair
 He was too young
 To have to care
 About life ending

 It is a curse
 This thing called “Cancer”
 Sent down to Earth
 To teach us a lesson.

 I lost my best friend
 He lost his life
A wound that still has to mend
 Was created in my heart.
