My hearts simple like a motel

Open to the lonely travelers and weary people

Trying to present this delicacy as neat like the tightly stretched sheets

Creative art work on the walls of my chambers to distract you from the pain drenching the walls

Small portions because I know you’re going to steal from and leave me soon

I try to protect myself from the reality by assuming you will be damaging like everyone else

The creep you met at the check-in desk is my depression, be careful he gets clingy

That pool is full of tears cried over lost people and lost love

Once you’ve left, you never turn around and look back on our memories

Ride off into the distance leaving me to choke on the dust you left behind

The thought of you suffocates me as I swallow your painful truth

Cleaning the mess you left is time consuming

It overtakes my life

You run through the halls disturbing other guests

Soon enough everyone will be gone

I leave the lamps on so you don’t have to come home to the dark

But you soon turn them out and leave me to linger in the shadows

I bang on the doors and try to get someone to let me but you pretend to be asleep

“Do not disturb” hanging from your door

But from my “open 24 hours!”

What else could I provide for a temporary stay?

My hearts simple like a motel
