Voice
Are you listening?
Are you listening?
Why did it take so long-
you’re not listening.
Why did it take so long
for you to hear my words?
Your vacant eyes are uninterested
as my words fall silently beneath your feet.
You pat me on the back
as if that will fix me.
It will not.
I need my words to explode before your eyes
like the bombing of world wars.
Historic.
Are you listening?
Historic.
I need you to care. I need you.
I am lost in my own shadow. Lonely.
Only my thoughts- unheard- for company.
My blood flows like my words.
You hear now. Finally.
Loud. Louder still.
You’re too late.
My vacant eyes are uninterested now
as my body falls silently beneath your feet.
Are you listening now?
