Midnight Madness MAG
How many times during the night
Do I wake up to scrawl down
Something poetic
That I am afraid my dreams
Will leave wounded by morning?
And I fixed that note in my mind
In hopes that there was still time
To get to you before you died
From all those pills and liquor
And then his lyrics,
They swept me away
Into a place
Where I somehow believed
That I could be more like you
No, not the addict
But the amazing person
You are before the day is over -
When you are still sober
And how many times lately
Have I drowned out
Their contemplations
And phone calls?
Then Conor would whisper
His sad stories
In my eardrums
And soothe this restless soul
I can't sleep.
I can only think
Of what I hope to accomplish
When this night has spit me out,
When it is all said and done
I can only hope
That by morning these pills
And these calls
And this note
Will all work out,
That this will all work out
