I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when theyre right, and sometimes good things fall apart so that better things can fall together -Marilyn Monroe

This is a truth
that applies to the human race,
yet to no particular race of men:
You never really understand a person,
until you consider things from his point of view,
climb inside of his skin,
and walk around in it.
One thing that doesn't abide,
by majority rule;
a person's conscience.
It was times like these
When;
you rarely win,
only children weep,
the dead bury the dead,
one does not love breathing,
and there’s just one kind of folks:
folks.
I don't pretend to understand,
Why reasonable people,
go stark raving mad,
simply because they're still human;
that the one place,
where a man ought to get a square deal,
is in a courtroom,
be he any color of the rainbow.
It was times like these,
That,
food comes with death,
flowers with sickness,
and little things in between;
two soap dolls,
a broken watch and chain,
a pair of good-luck pennies,
and our lives.
It made me sad.
Yet delete the adjectives,
and I'd have the facts;
it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.

Gil: I would like you to read my novel and get your opinion.
Ernest Hemingway: I hate it.
Gil: You haven't even read it yet.
Ernest Hemingway: If it's bad, I'll hate it. If it's good, then I'll be envious and hate it even more. You don't want the opinion of another writer.

I just finished reading the book, so it was cool reading this and recognizing the quotes :). And while the idea for this poem was cool, it could've been structured better. The flow was very, well, not flowy, and it just seemed like you were just stringing quotes from TKAM together. Also, please don't be offended by this post, because some people have before when I've given them my actually opinion. Honestly, I'm just trying to help by giving feedback other than "Wow, great poem!" like a lot of TIers tend to do...

Awesome poem! Beautiful job! I love this book and the quote about walking around inside a person's skin is one of my favorite quotes so I'm glad you used it. And the last line is a great ending!
