Fly
I didn’t know people couldn’t fly.
I tried it once, my pink fairy wings on, balanced from the windowsill on the second story.
Humming.
My arms spread so wide, ready to let the wind grab hold, carry me up and over.
Ready to be free.
They found me under the lilac bush.
Crumpled in a puddle of blood.
Still humming.
But I don’t try to fly anymore.
