Waiting
Dust, resting lightly
serving no purpose
but to remind us
of the effects of time.
Graying the beauty,
cluttering the objects
of the present
and hiding the past.
Clouding one’s judgments
Losing pleasant memories
of those once loved.
Lying heavily
on your soul,
thickening your skin,
dampening your heart
I am your dust
your thin naïve layer
temporarily shielding
your permanent pain,
waiting to be brushed off.
