Outside looking in
My childhood displayed before me
Dolls, tea sets, animals
Granmommy
Now it’s a crowded space
Junk I’ve never seen
It’s no longer warm
Or a home
Sweet scents no longer drift by
Now it is empty
She is gone
No more life to the house
Or her
The red carpet and toys taunt me
But they are alone too
I see myself sorting
Picking the most special things
Breathing in the last traces of her
Then there’s a stranger
Overtaking the place like poison ivy
Someone I don’t know
In a place all too familiar
But I can’t stop it
Because I’m on the other side
Of the glass'
