Goodnight
The night comes
As the locusts call.
The moon arises
As the sun falls.
Fireflies dance
In the cool, crisp air.
Little birds return
To the nests they share.
Deep in the forest
Are two yellow eyes;
Then up through the clouds
This wise owl flies.
The loud city noises
Slow to a steady hum.
To the lawn for some rest
The mare and foal do come.
The crickets’ beautiful song
Can be heard from afar.
Suddenly up in the sky
Appears a bright, yellow star.
The mother kisses her child
And tucks him in tight.
As a blanket of darkness
Tells the world, “goodnight.”
