Shadows
Darkening shadows rise to my wall
 Threatening, finding all and all
Keeping the light so far away
 Vanishing safety moving with day

 Hiding in corners
 Like war disturbed mourners
 Refusing to see
 The reflection of me

 Little feet quake
 Teeny arms shake
 Eyes squeeze shut
 Like a sword has cut

 I'm small and defenseless
 Much too young
 Mother comes in
 Soft whispers "Oh hun,"
 But shadows still come
 As they always will
 For light and dark
 Shall never stay still
