The Town Drunk
The crisp and the cold sting the man's worn feet
Turned to a drunkard after tasting defeat.
Too many times he had faith and then lost
And losing always comes with a cost.
A beautiful dream never come to pass
Can tear up a man and make him crass.
The last time he lost he decided to stay down
And soon became known as the drunk of the town.
The people that pass him everyday
Wonder why he let his life fall to decay.
He could have accomplished and won the gold cup
Had he stuck it out and not given up.
But many a man who falls stays there and cry
When they could have succeeded after another try.
Life is queer that it appears awful rough
But in essence it wants to make us all tough.
Too many a man give up when they're hit
And more often than not they stop and they quit.
Each man takes failure with strife
And cease to look forward on the bright side of life.
That drunkard man is no exception
He lacks purpose and drive and is need of redemption.
His failures made him whine and moan
And sooner than later he was left all alone.
He thought that goodness in life was all a lie
He believed this until the day he died.
Now when people when walking past his grave
Wonder how he could let his life simply fade away.
