Occupied Imagination
I turned off the lights to my bed room
Quickly ran into my bed
And let the covers envelop my body.
I closed my eyes and let my mind run wild.
Sometimes I’m a panda
While other times I fly.
It all depends on my mood.
But tonight when my body shut down for the night
And my realities were forgotten
I was a wild animal of the rainforest.
In the deep forests of Africa
I would become a hunter searching for my prey
I could feel my body becoming bloodthirsty
And my eyes were darting back and forth
For any sight of movement.
I catch a scent and then starting running like crazy.
And then suddenly I’m on a boat in the middle of the ocean.
Cannons are firing all around me.
I quickly get to my senses and prepare myself for battle.
The enemy pirates are fighting for our treasure
I grab my sword and let my instincts take over my body
I back up and fall overboard
In that moment I find out that I have a tail and gills.
I starting swimming and figure out that I’m a mermaid
I swim from ocean to ocean.
Talking to dolphins along the way
But as I’m swimming one time my tail gets caught on a net
I feel my body going higher and higher
And then I am on stage of a movie set
I see all of these famous celebrities surrounding me
Hair and makeup comes towards me and fixes me up
And I am pushed onto the stage
Where I recite lines that I don’t even know
But then suddenly
I hear a ringing noise while I’m on the set
I try to figure out what’s happening but it seems
As if nobody else notices and then
I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock
And my dreams leave my mind as quickly as they started
This is what happens when you
Enter the imagination of a five year old child.
