I spent four hours waiting
For you to get out
And we walked side by side
Among the crowds impacted
I smiled and laughed
Your speech was clear

While we were chatting
I wanted to be hesitant
But I couldn't stop
Telling you vaguely
Some sad story about the past year
And my many mistakes

But you're just glad
I'm young enough to realize
The path I was on
Versus where I am now
And I'm still a kid
No matter how much I claim to know

I put on extra make-up
So you would look into my eyes
You would see me as I am
With one extra spritz of perfume
So you would know the way I smelled
And you would hunt for it in the air

And I'm smart enough to know
All the ways I will stand out in your mind
Every ploy to burn into your memory
But I still can't figure out
How to make sure
I can stay the only one there

But still, I'll listen to your words
And bring them back up
To continue whatever this may be
You waved good-bye and
I walked to my car
And I never saw you again
