The Girl Inside the Mirror

The girl inside the mirror,
splashing color on her face,
to hide behind the lies;
goes out to face the day

Amidst the many blank profiles,
she’s determined to find her own
But fear and conscience, both,
hold back her withered soul

She covers the scars,
the marks,
the imperfections,
with color so intense
So many see right past her;
beautiful,
glowing,
dazzling
built up by her defense

The need to stop is in her,
dark, deep down inside
But the need to not is higher,
easier to pry

She forces it on herself,
day after grueling day
Future outcome means nothing,
as long as today is just okay

Twisting and turning those words,
all inside her feeble head
Falling back into the madness,
she starts it all over again

The colors hide the nightmare,
the dread of being monstrous
They swirl around her precious face,
her eyes; so bright, so wide,
her nose; so perfect, so small,
her lips; so round, so pink,
to deliver the judgment from us all

How pleasant the world would be,
she thinks,
if the inadequacy would disappear
The colors would never uproot,
through their middle, dives a spear

The girl inside the mirror,
erasing all that color off her face,
to cry with all those lies;
comes back and can’t escape

I was inspired by a friend of mine who has much self hatred and has an eating disorder. About what monsters those things can become and how it can effect you.

I loved this. It really portrays the true emotions. It is hard to escape. Just hang in there for your friend. (I just noticed this was posted a while ago, but it's still really good.) haha :)
