To End All Wars

For I have seen the barren fields
Stained with blood and prejudice
The trampled weeds and ashen skies:
We once knew war, but none like this
You, in your beds, and you, in your homes
Far away in the land of the free
You, in your cities built of glass –
How you would shiver if you could see
And all you who should sleep tonight
Thank your gods for the locks on your doors
All you with homes and families
Remember what we’re fighting for
And may you lay you down tonight
Safe from the darkness that grips this land
And may you wake in the morning light
Far from the perils of distant sands.

Very stirring, and thought-provoking. 

The fact that you can write poems this wonderful amazes me, I've never understood how people can do it. All those nuances and implications. I don't think I could.

I felt like I was reading a beautiful prayer. I hope this reminds others to be grateful for what they have.

Ahhhh

A breath released slowly to show my recognition, and for a few lines, my puzzlement that something is not quite right. Thank you for writing this, my heart bleeds even now for all of the injustice that I know of, and that I am not even aware of.
