Louisiana

I missed you then,
But I don't now.
Nine years of love,
Yet I don't know how

I ever walked away.
My life here
In this different world
Is filled with so much cheer.

Most friends I lost,
But two have stayed
In my heart
And never betrayed.

You taught me who
I shouldn't be.
Thank you, Louisiana,
For saving me.

The author's comments:
After Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana, I moved away from the only place I called home. Now I look at all that goes on with the two friends who I didn't lose, and I'm glad I made that huge change in my life. I believe I would be a totally different person if I had stayed.
