It's the end of the world as we know it,
It's the end of the world we all know;
But up until now, I didn't know it,
But we're here, now it's our time to go.

You can blame it all on global warming,
Hell, I know I've blamed heat many times;
But whether friction or carbon dioxide,
It's the end of our world, yours and mine.

Well, it's the end of our fun little ride
For reasons I don't understand;
But as we stand on this land, if you will take my hand,
Then at least we'll have died side by side.

Well, this is something I just can't abide,
I won't go down without giving fight;
So I'll take my last stand, and look into your eyes
As we all face the oncoming tide.

The future once seemed so unclear,
But the vague form has swiftly appeared.
Now the end times are near, and I'm glad you are here,
In your body if not in your mind.

The author's comments:
I am seventeen years old and home-schooled. I enjoy reading novels (especially mysteries), solving cryptic crossword puzzles, commenting online, and playing physics games (such as the Portal and Shift series).
One of my favorite poems is Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," which I admire for its interesting internal rhyme scheme and meter as well as for its thought-provoking ambiguity.
