The Dove Still Talks
Inside the cage, the dove still talks
Still sings its haunting tune
Still converses with those who walk
Eyeing it and strolling away soon
It still smiles with the sun in its eyes
Still laughs while the children saunter by
Staring at them, watching their surprise
While it sits there, being polite without a try
It still sleeps, happy and with peace
Comfortable on top of the cold metal
Without the yapping that it would cease
To begin its slumber and settle
For the bird is thoughtful and wise
And it knows the truth of life
That the world is based on lies
Covering oppression, hell and strife
Once you cloud your eyes with deceit
You can be blissful and forget
For the only way to win is to cheat
And the best way to live is without regret
