The Dance of Defeat
He smiles, a bright blue flame
She grins back, an ocean of pain
He takes a step, dangerous and bright
She fluidly moves closer, and others marvel at the sight
His eyes bore into hers, smoldering and burning
She stares back, calculating and learning
He offers a hand, elegant and refined
She takes it, fluid and ethereal combined
He begins to dance, taunting her with every sway
She follows perfectly, determined to outwit him in her own way
He stops, the smirk gone from his face
As she begins to smile at him, all elegance and grace
He becomes enchanted with every step she takes
She waits and watches as he slowly breaks
I won, she thought, smiling at her victory
He stood, entranced, unaware of this calamity
But, sadly and slowly, they both fell for each other that day
Because after her win, she had decided to stay
And with every step, they blew each other away
And as she and him watched each other, it soon became aware
That they had both lost, but by then they didn't care
