I want to rest my head upon your shoulder

But instead I sit here lonely while you hold her

I miss the comfort of the feathers there beneath your wing

A little princess deemed unworthy of the shelter of a king

The day I started losing you shocked my very being

Now to live without you is as natural as breathing

It's only times like these when I'm missing you the most

That I swear on Princess Butterfly as just an empty boast

To know Big Brother's watching doesn't make it any safer

His goggles blind, he doesn't see I'm sandwiched like a wafer

Between possibility, a moral choice of wrong and right

For me to keep my sanity, I took a baited bite

Little Princess heading out to the world beyond the gates

Security deserted post; guess he didn't like the rates

Yearning for your shoulder as I cross to yonder side

A guardian wing restraining me from following the tide

To a king of false allegiance who would claim royalty

And the true King would sign a broken sister off as misplaced property

But truly I know I wasn't worth a fight of clanging swords

He'd rather replace than lose his rank as a high and noble lord

A lost princess barefoot in the sinking sand

You took my crown; he took her hand

A scepter was not raised to me

So, leaving the palace, I begin my journey

The author's comments:

The story of a young princess whose decisions cause her to be "lost" and when the King doesn't raise his scepter to show acceptance, she makes the biggest decision of her life and must give up her crown.

Thank you so much. If you don't mind, could you comment on some of my other pieces? I'm really looking for what other people think, as this is basically my first time sharing my poetry. Thanks!
