Some Men
Today I found out that not all men are bad
I know! Funny right
But I learned that
Some men genuinely know how to care
Some men genuinely know how to love
Some men genuinely know how to respect
You aren’t “some men”
Because you see
Some men know how to talk to you when you’re sad
Some men know not to push too much when you’re mad
Some men know when it’s time to just get some air
Some men genuinely know how to care
You aren’t “some men”
Because you see
Some men know how to make you smile ear to ear
Some men know how to hug you tight and kiss your forehead
Some men know how to make you feel like you are perfect in every single way just as you are
Some men genuinely know how to love
Because you see
Some men know when to stop
Some men know how to respect boundaries
Some men know that “no” means no the first time
Not just after I tell you 5 times over
Some men genuinely know how to respect
But once again
You aren’t “some men”

I wrote this piece in a place in my life when i was struggling with teenage boys. We all go through it. The staring. The dirty jokes. The sly remarks. I turned to writing to express how I felt after one boy in particular took me for granted. I came to a point of realization that I can’t just stereotype all men as “bad” because some men actually know how to be a man. As if directly connected from my brain through my hand, my pencil flew and out came “Some Men”.
