counts off the clock.
Swallows old,
tries to be bold.

Individuals come so far,
take long trails seeking gold bars.
Pacing eludes gleaming stars,
later brings deep, bruising scars.
Makes a show, a game, a sport.
Realization of support.
Sticks seniority against you,
reputations cling like glue.
The Freshman Friday’s blues.
