The Zebra
Miles away in the tall, towering grass,
there he laid still visible
in his unique, patterned coat.
I slowly approached,
not wanting to startle,
but stepping on a stick made that impossible.
Silence.
His eyes met mine,
raised from his bed,
and began chasing me with anger on his face.
I ran through the grass and
jumped over puddles—
Looking behind to see only blurs of stripes.
The clicking hooves got louder
until he was right by my side,
but now with a large smile— He looked in my eyes.
