Your cold, small studio

Made me feel welcome and warm

Your hard tone and strictness

Made me improve as a person,

As a dancer

You always had brutal honesty,

No sugarcoating

Always telling things the way they were

Even if it hurt to hear

You took in dancers, artists of all different levels and capabilities

And gave them no choice but to improve

Though you had little to offer,

Every penny was put to good use

Every performance better than the last

Constantly improving and seeking, striving to push us to the limit

But under the seemingly harsh outside

Was a caring and passionate teacher

Who only wanted the best for his students

This piece is about my Russian ballet teacher from when I lived in Germany who appears harsh and cold at first but is actually a wonderful person who is passionate about his work.
