The Thrill of the Ride
I recall the pleasantly warm feeling I had,
The lively, little butterflies inhabiting my stomach.
Something of considerable excitement, of thrill.
The euphoric highs, the saddening lows, and everything in between,
The view was breathtaking, like gazing at a beautiful dark sky.
I became lost in those dark waves and little stars, they enchanted me.
Each high made my heart throb, like being shot by C’s arrow.
No matter how low we inevitably got, we’d soar back up again,
like gentle doves on the morning flight,
and treasured the good times we had.
To me, the main attraction by heart was our closeness
Looking back, that’s what I passionately desired, not the ride itself.
The wind blowing through our hair like a spring breeze,
buckles faithfully preventing us from falling out.
None of that delighted me nearly as much
as being close to my special someone.
I don’t regret taking the risk one bit.

This poem is written using a roller coaster as a metaphor for being in a relationship with someone. The highs and lows, and everything in between.
