A Name
You've never seen it?
Someone wearing a name,
the way they might a coat:
collar flipped up against the cold.
Or perhaps as a hat, a title,
which they tip as a gesture of acknowledgment.
Or a name they wear as a glove,
for protection or dignity?
The names washed and hung out to dry.
Lined up on a string and held with pins, laundry.
The kind of names that are stuffed in the back of a closet
like an ugly sweater.
The kind of name worn as a shoe:
sneakers and rain boots,
skates or enchanted glass slippers.
You name it.
My personal favorite
someone wearing a name
the way you wear a smile,
with your eyes.
