The Pack Awaits You
A blissful silence throughout the herd
Shepherd holds his staff proudly, not a single sheep astray
But the wolves have always been slinking around in the distance
Silently waiting to strike again, a stealthy predator
But the shepherd pays no mind, no, his herd follows obediently
What more can they do
They know the danger of the wolves,
They know not of their close vicinity
Innocent bleats praise a safe tranquility
But the wolves are coming closer,
And the shepherd’s grip starts to fall
Until the hold of his herd is not there at all
And haunting cries from within the pack
Keep infiltrating those rolling hills
No one saw the prints in the mud
No one heard the pant of a hunter
Shepherd fled, his herd all alone
What more is left to salvage
The wolves have attacked

I decided to write this poem about the Taliban's hold of Afghanistan. The whole event was incredibly shocking and frightening, so I can only imagine how those who are actually experiencing the Taliban's control must feel. Furthermore, there is little to no help or aid for the citizens of Afghanistan as attempting to seek refuge elsewhere has become a matter of life or death. Continuing to speak about this topic will help bring more attention to the issue, and I hope that it sparks the drive for others to speak up about this crisis as well.
