lights flicker out, slowly at first–
then all at once.
glitter is tossed across the sky
and a breath of happiness can be seen
between the stars.

grass tickles my back as
it stares up at the sky
alongside me, both of us
wishing we could fly.
my green irises disappear
into dust, discolored by
a glowing reflection of sun,
the moon shadowing my eye.

wind whistles, breathing low
tickling my eyelashes
i blink and the world has disappeared–
only the infinite void of space
remains
and all is quiet

for a moment
i am alone–

an absence of noise
fills my lungs
and breathing is a little easier

the weight of the world floats into the night–
i am light in a sea of obscurity.
hypnotized by the shimmering midnight,
in the dark, there is security.

the sun peeks through, but
my hand silences it–
not yet,
i whisper.
