The last few breaths

What once shone is now rust

What once stood now lies

The sky, ominous and dark

Holds presence to one small bird

Circling the empty waters

Its feathers fall and float

Not a word was said

There was no one to say it

Who once spoke was now speechless

Who once breathed was now breathless

The birds wings flap

But soon they slow

And his eyes slowly close

The wind carries it

To what once was a forest

Where once lied a seed now lies a stump

Where once lied joy now lies sorrow

And the wind, cold and bitter

Sends the small specks of dust

To cover the bird, who lies motionless and still

Its lifeless feathers blow through the chilling air

And the sky is empty once again

The author's comments:

I write poetry when I have feelings that I feel like I need to express. I wrote this piece in memory of my grandfather, as the world felt empty after he was gone.
