eyeshadow
When you remove
s u n l i g h t ,
Butterfly wings hang dull.
Old eyeshadow pallets
Without the mischievous gleam of eyes
Darting over naked bodies
Pinned to the small black box.
Wings tethered,
Prim
Proper
Pressed
Wings suppressed
For only God knows the things she’d do if free.

 
I love the imagery of the butterfly frozen in time, and wanted to capture the magnificence of her deep blue wings.
