Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
— Isaiah 24:1

3,958 miles left to go

What will I find?

I soon will know

My drill is made of tungsten

The strongest metal known to men.

3,858 miles left to go

My drill is shifting to and fro

While drilling to the center of the Earth

Drilling through rock, dirt, and minerals

Getting stuck at regular intervals.

3,558 miles left to go

I’ve gone farther than a stones throw

10,260 years, it is said it will take

But I am immortal

For the Lord's sake.

3,058 miles left to go

Making this journey with a crew of four men and four women alone

Making this journey to somewhere unknown

Drilling through dirt, minerals, and stone.

2,858 mile left to go

I have aged

I have grown

I have seen so many things

Well, not really, mostly dirt and bones.

2,458 miles left to go

My clothes have been ripped, torn,

And then finally I have to learn how to sew.

2,158 miles left to go

I have had to fix my robot drill

I have had to fix the computer circuit board

For it may have had an overload.

1,858 miles left to go

My crew is getting bigger

Children are being born

My crew has begun to grow.

1,358 miles left to go

We have a life of suffering

We are in a time of famine

For our food levels have been running low.

1,000 miles left to go

We have found an end to the famine

We are at peace with ourselves

We don’t have fear of dying

We hope to see the unknown.

700 miles left to go

We have a society

We have food

We have made it farther than any man

Into the Earth.

300 miles left to go

Any time now we will be on the trip home

A trip to the surface

Where some of our people have never been.

We have made it to the center of the Earth

It is time to go back to the surface

It is time to go home.
