In the silence of dusk
I persist alone.
Who will remember?
Who will return?
Wind swirls up dust
carrying it through broken windows
of what used to be a home
ringing with laughter.
Now grime and frost settle on
rotting hardwood floors.
Cobwebs collect in the fireplace that
once blazed on cold winter nights.
Nobody will remember.
Nobody will return.
Time ticks on incessantly,
and memories drift.
Even my fragile bloom
awaits its time to depart.
But my fragrance still lingers
faintly in the wind—
For whoever remembers.
For whoever returns.

The white anemone flower is named after the Greek word for “wind” and is often referred to as “windflower.” Like the wind which comes and goes, the flower is associated with emotions experienced in various seasons of life, particularly despair and abandonment.
