^Discovering Herself^
She was a little different,
Not like the others whom she looked at with so much amazement.
None could say that she was not a kid,
Because dancing around was all she ever did.
She was full of flaws,
Never known to a world of applauds.
Among all the paper white teeth and model like body,
Her personality was something that stood very gaudy.
Slowly, the girl went towards a new beginning,
Hoping that people here would start recognising.
Soon she realised it was just a bigger world,
A place where she chose a corner to sit tight and curled.
The dark thoughts started clouding her sunny days,
She wanted to be like them and thus she started finding ways.
Mirror seemed like her enemy,
Looking at herself all she did was cry
Hoping she’d be beautiful in atleast someone’s eye.
She started to change,
The girl who loved ice cream and pizzas yesterday,
Was the same girl who willingly stayed hungry today.
The girl who’d laugh at things very dumb,
Was the one who wanted to become completely numb.
She wanted to change in a night into someone ,they’d maybe like.
When she could find no way out,
It was then she realized there were things of which she should be proud.
She could feel the rise of her suppressed power, when she understood,
She sure was in the garden of roses,
But she herself was a sunflower.

Hey, My name is Hritika Agarwal. I am from Kolkata and I enjoy writing poems about teenage life. This specific poem "Discovering Herself" is about a teenage girl who never feels involved among her peers. The feeling of loneliness soon turns into hatred for herself until she realises that there are many stars in the sky but a single moon which makes it more special. The poem shows how gradually she understands that she doesnt need to be like them to be one of them and thus she starts embracing her hidden personality and ultimately finds her way to happiness.
