What to Fight For
"What do you fight for?"
A question always yelled in my face.
Spit flying out of a mouth
A voice I'll have drilled into the back of my head.
"Did you hear me!?! Do I have to say it again? WHAT DO YOU FIGHT FOR!?!"
"That List is too long Sergeant."
I fight for too much.
I fight for myself,
I fight for my family
I fight for my friends, my home, my country, every single dang person in the world that needs protection.
"I fight for Me, I fight for You, I fight for Them."
"Explain Yourself!"
I look down at my right breast,
On it is My Name, who I am, my identity.
My Left, "Army", who I swore myself to fight alongside.
And My Right Shoulder
The American Flag, something I stand under, something that gives me hope in the morning, while so far far away.
"I fight for who I am, I've fought for who will let me, And I'll always fight for who needs it most."
I am a son.
I am a human.
But more importantly,
I am a Soldier, sworn to fight, no matter what.

As someone going into the military, I tried to connect more to what I'm truly fighting for.
