What is Theatre?

A place of Comfort, Unity, Happyness, Inspiration, Imagination, Work.

A theatre to theatre kids is like a stadium to sports kids.

It’s a place where anyone can go to be protected, where we can be ourselves.

A theatre is Comfort,

Is being in a theatre and feeling the world just stop.

It’s being able to find comfort in a show or fictional character,

Finding others who are like me and who love performing arts.

A theatre is Unity,

Something this world needs more of.

Theatres, plays, musicals all help with understanding unity.

Everyone, no matter who you are, a place to watch anything they want.

A theatre is Happiness,

Where normal isn’t, theatre is where you can,

Be yourself and not feel judged, act like anyone you want.

Be whoever you want.

A theatre is Imagination,

Where I can go and see whatever I want,

Satire of the Mormon faith or a family dealing with mental disorders.

A place where anything can be brought to life.

A theatre is Inspiration,

Where people go to get ideas.

Where the next Andrew Lloyd Webber is born.

Where the next hit musical gets thought of.

A theatre is Work,

Hours, days, months to get done.

Actors doing countless hours of vocal work.

Stagehands spending days to get every set piece done in time.

This is what theatre is.

Comfort, Unity, Happyness, Imagination, Inspiration, Work.

A place where normal doesn’t exist.

A place that feels like home to me.

The author's comments:

It’s inspiration is that I'm a major theatre nerd and love the performing arts and hoping I can get a job in stagecraft work in the future. The backstory of this was I tried an idea then tried a different one under a different theme which led me back to the first theme with a different similar idea. Imagine a threatre nerd who loves theatre but always gets slandered about it. Well when writing this poem I hope you can see that theatre is more than a place and that you spend lots of money for only a few hours. It’s about what I see in threatre and how a theatre is just as great as everything else, that it doesn't need to change. I'm trying to get this poem to be kinda eye opening to others about threatre and the performing arts and how every aspect of theatre, where plays can be magical and majestic and there's no normal when being a part of one.
