Imagine being a butterfly.

One of the most beautiful creatures.

Admiring the beauty of the life around you,

Though, never your own.

Imagine being a butterfly,

unable to see your wings.

The most defining feature of your personality,

but never knowing what it looks like.

Imagine being a butterfly.

With wings so fragile that it so easily tears.

When it does, it hurts.

Especially when it's by another but yourself.

Imagine being a butterfly.

Your wing torn and the pain of it causing you misery everyday,

yet you cannot fix it, for you are unable to see the problem.

Imagine being a butterfly.

Eventually the injuries fade.

You are unable to see your condition after all.

However, you finally realize you cannot fly.

Your wings too battered over time.

Imagine being a butterfly.

Ready to die.

The one thing people want to see are your wings.

Yet other people didn't allow them to shine.

So now, torn and battered, you turn a new leaf.

Now you hide your real wings, saving the true you in your heart.

Never allowing them to tear your facade apart.

Never again.

The author's comments:

I think that as humans, we never see our real potential.

No matter what someone else says, we will always sense we have a flaw, even when we recognize that we do not need to be perfect or someone else.

There are nice people out there. People who want to show what they are made of. People who just want to live. People who are just wanderers, admiring the beauty of life.

However, peace cannot last.

Eventually, they will come across something or someone that tears them down.

That is when they will begin to change.

At first tired, torn, if you will, from this damage.

When they can no longer take it, they become like the rest. Hiding behind a mask. Hiding their true wings behind a happy facade and a mask of make up so that no one can see the flaws.

So that they fit in. So that they aren't ostracized for have bigger wings, bigger hopes, bigger dreams.

Well..I suppose that's just life. Right?
A facade to keep up, until we can't anymore.
