hiding in your darkened shield
you wear a mask
concealed from light


eyes think they see
minds think they know
hearts think they beat

through you
of you
for you

your lips curve upward,
or so the script instructs
instead a tear falls
from your eye to the ground


and where are you now?
lost in the plot of this once heartfelt play
