I believe he lived
on a precarious edge of society
where there are few people
and even less hope

the jacket he wore
had many holes.
Perhaps
that’s why they got along.

no one really noticed
what had happened until
the dog who had been his best friend
began feeding on his corpse.

he would have laughed
at that.
f***ing dog,
always stealing something from him.

the man had a beard
like an overused paintbrush.
if you touched it, you’d be afraid to break it.

and if you did happen to break it
you wouldn’t be surprised.

It’s f***ing cold out here.
