Man in the Market
Sunlight streams down on a crowded market place
People chat and joke as they look around
A single man in the middle sits on the ground
He strums the guitar on his lap as he stares into space
His fingers glide smoothly across the frets
His hat is placed on the ground before him
And occasionally passing shoppers will drop in a donation
The man simple nods his head as they head off in a new direction
Only a few people stop to listen to his song
Most don’t notice him as they hurry by
Some people glance pityingly at him
And ask him why he gave up on his aspirations
They say he can still transcend his situation
They encourage him to keep trying to live his dream
He smiles and says “I already am”
