Her Favorite Place
She sits on the field
between the two goal posts,
her favorite place to be.
The lyrics of the song Forever
dance through her head
as she sits in the cool October air.
Soon she will leave this place,
never to play here again
or wear her number 23 jersey.
Something she worked her whole life for
is finally reaching it’s end.
Next year college,
Scary, mysterious, different, and unknown.
Frightening but exciting
all at the same time.
Similar to the first game of a season.
First the butterflies,
then the strength,
then it’s over.

Thanks so much this is a very personal poem to me, playing varsity soccer was my life and I miss it every single day.
I've read some of your stuff it's really good, I have a short story I wrote about one of my friends who died in 2009, you could probably relate to it. Writing that short story helped me overcome and come to terms with his death.
