A Grand Stage
The perfect setting –
A grand stage.
Oh the poor mistress
In all her glory
Missed her cue.
She never saw it coming.
The ropes backstage were pulled,
Revealing the new backdrop.
And her old world, red dress
Was ideal;
The lace seemed to add
A special touch
As she fell in front
Of an empty house,
Performing for an invisible audience.
She knew the lines too well,
They said,
But was unfamiliar with the
ending.
And so when she fell
She never recovered.
