The One that Got Away

An egg is found
Just a simple egg
It can live or die
with time.
As the days roll by
out comes a bird
wings already spread
to fly.
As it dips and soars
you reach to it
long fingers outstretched
in vain
Is there a cage nearby?
Perhaps a rope of some sort
to wrangle this bird
today
But alas, those items
were all left behind
And the bird? It flew
away
