Discovering the Parallel Road to Independence
Blood pooling in cracks and seams
Rubber burned into my sunbaked surface
Tears drip. Praying their last seconds
Will not be spent on unforgiving tar
Sirens and footsteps resonate across me

 If screams
    Could penetrate my stone silence
 If white stripes, now bleeding
Coud tell the story they show
If the lives of children, I have absorbed
Could be felt by mothers again

 My rugged skin
    The aspiration of youth
    The pride of independence
 My curves
    The craving for speed
    The yearining for wind
 My essence
    Begs recklessness
    Beseaches passion

 Now you have followed
    So many before
 Now you have felt
    Thrill melt into fear
 Now you have seen
    The parallel road to independence

 Now.

your blood pools in my cracks and seams

rubber burned into my sun-baked surface
     your tears drip
     you're praying
your last seconds will not be spent on unforgiving tar

Sirens and footsteps resonate across me for you

 If your screams
    Could penetrate my black heart
 If white stripes, now bleeding
    Could tel of your youth
If your life, which I have absorbed
Could be felt by your mother again

Your blood crying out to heaven
 Your mother's grief left unearthed

 WHile you burried deep within

If you had not discovered me
    The Parallel Road to Independence
