Not a Mockingbird
You were once a caterpillar
 Now you’re in a cocoon
You claim to be a killer
 I’ll prove you wrong soon

 Are you hiding?
 Are you waiting?
 From all the chiding?
 For day’s awakening?

You say you are a monster
 Demonic as fire
Yet you sit here in a cluster
 Pretending to play a lyre

I understand there’s good and bad
But that is the same for all
So why don’t you break a tad
 And let yourself fall?

 Eventually your wings will spread
As broad as the night sky
I’ll be waiting beside the bed
I’ll be there till it’s time for good-bye
