We do not inherit the earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.

The clanking of the store bell
Echoes dimly
Through the crowded shelves
Muted footfalls on the
Yellow and red tiled floor
There's some shuffling and muttering
Behind the metal counter
Stocked to the ceiling with
Sweet smelling confections
Pitter-patter
The coins are placed upon
The jumbled counter
Small fingers twitch with anticipation
A wrapped bonbon is placed
Into an eager hand
A car drives by and kicks the red
Brick dust into the wind
I skip down the timeworn side-walk
In one hand a bag of milk
In the other the chocolate
Candy soft and moist
It's melting in the heat
Eat it fast then
At home mom pours the milk
And when she asks for change
There'll be none
