Flowers
There were flowers in the road
Tall ones, yellow and black
Emblems of joy forgotten and Rejected
One sat away from the rest
Alone, decapitated
His petals strewn down the roadside
Scattered by the wind's slightest fancy
Scorched by heat that does not forgive
Summer's warmth
Does not penetrate the soul
I have seen the flowers
Selected in their prime
Condemned for their beauty
Plucked from life
Their corpses
Prettied up with ribbons, bows,
And lies
Death in Love's guise
A worthless spectacle
Left to erode
On the roadside
The Sun beats their petals
Into a lifeless pulp
With the excuse
Of giving light to all
I have seen the flowers
I have heard the silence
Howl their despair
Despair for love lost
Hate gained
Regret
That spoon feeds us
The regurgitated slop
Of our discontent
Listen to the cosmos
It will sing,
In tones dulcet and mocking,
Of the nothing that we are
