Stay
Just so near
Just beyond
And the eyes
Become an object
In a mind
Made of such fabrics
Of the sky
A fabrication
And I will come to recall
The traces and the lines
Of a smile
Subtly hidden
Just beneath
Special for a discovery
And I will come to insult
With these boxed
Into a skull
Insult
All existence
That truly walks upon this earth

Yes, you're right, it does describe a gaze. But its about getting near enough to a person to have their gaze, but have them still be out of reach so that everything else you think of who they are is extrapolated by you- its not necessarily true. Thanks for commenting!

D here! Now I'm not a great poem analyzer but this one's pretty cool! I grasp the idea until line 16, I believe its a description of a gaze but I can't be too sure. Correct me if I'm wrong!
