Where I Live
I lie here comfortably uncomfortable

I lie here on a stiff and old wood deck

I lie here on a fine midsummer Michigan evening

I lie here and see the sun drift over the gaps and spaces of the greenery

I lie here relaxed by the cool temperature and light air-weight resting throughout my surroundings

I lie here and hear the meek rumble of air-conditioning systems

I lie here and listen to the soundtrack of the admirable birds, the sweet radio tuning into quiet rock music from distant neighboring houses, the brief yelling of adults in mini-mansions, the shrieking of playful children down the street

I lie here accustomed to the amiable commonplace hum of various machines editing yards

I lie here entranced by the placid barking dogs and occasional zoom of airplanes

I lie here and feel the delicate wind graze over my cheekbones and whistle through the trees

I lie here and enjoy the incomparable shading of the sky from bright, sunny blue to mellow, twilight-awaiting periwinkle

I lie here and absorb the shine and shadow, the collection, and the separation of the mildly humble abodes

I lie here attempting to read a boon of desperate stories and simply cannot refuse the taunting, distracting, and absolutely loveable day
