Sunset at Sea
Kindred clouds survey the sea, painted red by the sun
White sentries dressed in cloth patrol the proud horizon
From a small island in the surf sprouts a stone pillar of white
This guardian of the sea guides sailors through the night
The oceans waves, long and wide, travel forever until the tide
Delivers them to shore so that they may travel nevermore
A battle begins in the sky as the sun recedes like the tide and the night and moon rise to power, the sun has seen today’s last hour
Daylight fades; the clouds become grey, but as the sailors say:
“That sunset was beautiful, one of a kind”
But fear not my friend, come the morrow, the sun will rise and retreat,
And then that night,
It will all repeat.
